Washaway Beach

East-facing beach at the foot of Dobroyd Head in Sydney Harbour, named for the fact that its sand is occasionally completely washed away, leaving sandstone slabs, and only gradually returns.

Waterloo Swamp

Swamp area bounded by present day Epsom Road, South Dowling and Bourke streets which was dammed to provide water for the high pressure pipes which drove the first hydraulic lifts and presses in Sydney.

West's Creek

Stream that ran through Thomas West's land into the western side of Rushcutters Bay, and appearing in maps from the mid nineteenth century as Rushcutters Creek.  In 1842 it was fixed as the municipal boundary with the City of Sydney and the line remains the boundary today although the creek itself has been redirected and is now part of the drainage system.

Slow growing plant known commonly as 'grass tree' that is native to the Sydney area and the central coastal area of New South Wales. In the Sydney language it is called 'gulgadya' or 'gadi', and the word Gadigal, meaning 'people of the grass tree', is derived from it. Part of the plant is edible, and it also produces an adhesive resin. It is also used in traditional medicines.

Peak in the Higher Macdonald district of the Hawkesbury that has an elevation of about 230m. The Aboriginal name recorded for the mountain in 1829 was Kolebutba.
