Island in Middle Cove near Rozelle which housed a biological laboratory investigating rabbit eradication and cattle diseases.

Rodd Island Recreation Trust

Trust established in 1894 to manage Rodd Island after closure of the laboratories which had attempted to solve the rabbit infestation problem. The Trust ended in February 1982.

Rodd, John Tremayne

John Tremayne Rodd migrated to Australia from England in 1822 with three sons after the death of his wife. He worked as an assistant surveyor in the Surveyor General's Department and was a supervisor of convicts at Newcastle. He and his son Robert Adamson Rodd both received land grants around Wollombi Creek.

On 13 February 1938 the ferry Rodney capsized and sank when its passengers gathered on one side to get a good view of the visiting USS Louisville. Sixteen drowned.

Large cemetery established in 1868 on the railway line between Sydney and Parramatta at Haslem's Creek. It became known as the Rookwood Necropolis after the suburb in which it was located. The suburb's name was eventually changed to Lidcombe, but the cemetery retained the name of Rookwood.
