Thompson, Matthew Pearson

Clerk who was convicted of theft and transported to New South Wales in March 1813. He arrived in February 1814, followed in July by his wife Ann and son William. He was appointed as the schoolteacher at Pitt Town, complete with residence and salary. As soon he was awarded his Ticket of Leave in 1822, Thompson left this job as and moved with his growing family to farming land high on the Macdonald (Gunanday) River.

Thow, William

Railway engineer who worked for the South Australian Railways and became chief mechanical engineer of the New South Wales Railways. He was involved in two royal commissions in 1892. Thow was accused of belonging to a 'ring' with Edward Eddy, Sir John Fowler and the English locomotive manufacturers, Beyer, Peacock and Company, but the charges were eventually dismissed. His overall influence on locomotive development was considerable; his designs operating on five Australian systems. He died leaving an estate valued at 15,962 pounds.

Threlkeld, Lancelot Edward

Missionary and Congregational minister who established a mission for Aboriginal people at Lake Macquarie where he wrote several well regarded studies of Aboriginal language. Living in Sydney later in life, he continued to champion victims of discrimination.
