Bassett-Darley Estate

The history of the Bassett-Darley estates chronicles D'Arcy Wentworth's attempts to control his lands after his death, which ultimately failed, resulting in the type of subdivision typical in Sydney in the nineteenth century.

Commodore Heights

Commanding views over Broken Bay and Pittwater, Commodore Heights was named for a Royal Navy officer, Rowley Lambert. Its chequered history of private and government ownership ended with its incorporation into Ku-ring-Gai Chase National Park.

Lawson, William

Explorer, pastoralist and settler, William Lawson came to Sydney as a soldier, but stayed to become one of the most successful farmers and animal breeders in the colony.

Meehan, James

Transported for his part in the Irish rebellion of 1798, James Meehan became an exceptional surveyor and explorer of Sydney, New South Wales and Tasmania, before retiring to the large land grant he received at Macquariefield, as reward for his services.
