Apple Tree Bay

Named in 1832, Apple Tree Bay became a popular swimming and boating spot by the early twentieth century.

Beauty Point (Hornsby)

Dharug country on the western shore of Berowra Creek, gradually settled by Europeans during the nineteenth century.

Berowra Heights

Berowra Heights was created out of Berowra in 1973.

Berowra Valley Regional Park

Stretching over 40,000 hectares of land, the Regional Park includes great biodiversity.

Bobbin Head

Bobbin Head was preserved as bushland by the activism of Eccleston du Faur, who campaigned for the establishment of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Bobbin Head has become one of the main recreation areas in the park.

Collingridge Point

Named for George Collingridge, whose writing and artwork helped make Berowra a popular resort.

Cowan Creek

The area that became Cowan Creek remained undisturbed by white colonists until the 1880s. Soon after, much of the catchment became part of the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, as it remains.

Crosslands Reserve

River flats that became Crosslands Reserve when it was occupied by timber-cutter Burton Crossland in the 1850s. Later a picnic spot, the reserve is managed by Hornsby Council.

Elouera Bushland Natural Park

Dharug country marked by twenty Aboriginal sites, the park is part of Berowra Valley Regional Park.

Fishermans Point

Fishermans Point lies on Dharug land, at the mouth of Berowra Creek.

Hawkesbury River

The Hawkesbury River, or Dyarubbin, in Sydney's north and west, was an important transport route for Aboriginal people and colonists. Its use changed as first ferry, then road and rail bridges opened up land to the north and west.

Kangaroo Point Hornsby

The Aboriginal people who are its traditional owners carved Stingray Rock at what is now called Kangaroo Point. Peat's ferry crossed the Hawkesbury here from the 1840s.

Marramarra National Park

Dharug country before the Europeans came, Marramarra National Park contains many Aboriginal sites and artefacts. It was established in 1979 in rugged bush near Hornsby.

Middle Dural

Dharug country until the Europeans arrived, settlers came to Dural from 1819. In 1890 a school proposal used the name Middle Dural.

Milsons Passage

Based on Robert Milson's land, purchased in the 1860s, Milsons Passage grew into a small suburb after subdivision in 1939.

Mount Errington

Named for a large house built by Oscar Roberts, Mount Errington quickly became Hornsby's 'top end of town', home to businessmen, professionals, writers and artists.

Muogamarra Nature Reserve

JD Tipper established this sanctuary in the 1930s, and it became a state government reserve in 1953.

North Epping

Dharug country that became part of the Field of Mars, North Epping was sold for orchards, nurseries and poultry farms in 1898, and only became suburban and residential after World War II.

Old Mans Valley

Old Mans Valley was granted to Thomas Higgins in 1824. Timber, orchards and quarries have been the main economic pursuits.

Pearces Corner

Named for Aaron Pearce (or Pearse), a convict who became a landowner, the locality of Pearces Corner was the first township in the area, on the Peats Ferry Road leading north.

Peats Ferry

George Peat established a ferry service across the Hawkesbury around 1840, which was eventually joined to Pearces Corner by road, providing a new route to Newcastle. In 1945 the ferry was replaced with a road bridge.

Thompsons Corner

Thomas Thompson, who opened a bakery on the corner in the 1850s, gave his name to this locality.
