Deer family collection

The Deers are descendents of Norman Selfe's brother Harry Selfe. While much of the material in the family collection relating to Norman Selfe and his sister Maybanke Anderson is now held in the Mitchell Library, some, including the photographs of Norman Selfe used in the Dictionary, remain with the family. These photographs appear in the Dictionary with the permission of the Deer family.

Normanhurst

Northern residential suburb, named for prominent civil engineer Norman Selfe (1839-1911), who had a property there. 'Hurst' is the Old English word for a wooded hill.
