Sydney Living Museums

Sydney Living Museums is the trading name of the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales, a statutory authority formed in 1980. It is one of the largest state museums in Australia and is entrusted with the care of key historic buildings and sites in New South Wales.

Enmore

Enmore's traditional owners were the Cadigal people. Convicts who became millionaires, retired sea captains, merchants, judges, bushrangers and rock music have all contributed to Enmore's colourful history.

Stanmore House

Residence built ca.1847 for Mary Reiby's daughter Elizabeth, on the corner of Enmore Road and Reiby Street, Enmore. Although since altered, it still stands.

Enmore

Inner-west residential suburb on the ridge between Newtown and Marrickville. Its name comes from Enmore House (1835), designed by John Verge for master mariner Captain Sylvester Brown.

Newtown

Inner-west suburb which developed along the main road south from Sydney. It became a prosperous shopping district in the late 19th century, and later a working-class and migrant suburb, now gentrified.
