Far south-western semi-rural suburb named after the estate granted to Dr Robert Townson in 1810. It did not join in the rapid postwar development of the Campbelltown district.

Named for Varro Ville, the country estate of Robert Townson, Varroville remained a rural retreat well into the twentieth century, with dairy farming the main economic activity.
