Great White Fleet visit 1908

Visit of the United States of America naval fleet of 16 vessels as part of the circumnavigation of the globe. Painted white, the peacetime colour scheme, it served as a showpiece of goodwill and demonstrated American seapower.

Rose Bay

Eastern harbourside suburb named for Governor Arthur Phillip's friend and mentor George Rose, later Treasurer of the Navy. It was the site of a flying boat airport until 1974 and seaplanes still land there.
