The Dictionary of Sydney was archived in 2021.
Opened in Oatley in 1981 on the former site of an electrical yard and Judd's Brickworks as the teacher training component of the former Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education in Paddington. In 1989 the Institute was subsumed into the Faculty of Professional Studies of the University of NSW and the campus became the University's School of Teacher Education. In 1999 all teaching activities were moved from Oatley to the University's campus at Kensington. The site was occupied in 2001 by the Oatley Senior Campus of the Georges River College, a senior high school and TAFE college.
