Collington, James

Convict who in 1792 entered a public bakehouse through its chimney and stole 50 pounds of flour which he stashed away. After his stash was seized by another individual, he broke into another hut where eight people were sleeping and took a box of provisions before he was discovered and apprehended. His trial was held at Parramatta on 7 February 1792 and he was hanged the following morning. At the tree where he was hanged, he addressed onlookers warning them to avoid his mistakes, saying he was 'induced by hunger' to commit his crime.
