Goddard, Doris
Publican of the Hollywood Hotel in Surry Hills from 1977 until her death in 2019. Doris Goddard grew up in Glebe with her mother Essie. In 1952 she left Sydney for London in order to have an operation on a heart defect and to follow her theatrical and musical career. After a successful film, television and musical career, she returned to Sydney in 1958 to visit family and stayed, entering the hotel business with her mother. The Hollywood Hotel became an iconic destination in inner city Sydney, with a diverse and colourful clientele who were welcomed and entertained by Doris until her death at 89 in 2019.
