Loomes, John James
Public servant and magistrate who held the role of Acting City Coroner in 1961 before becoming City Coroner in 1963. He was in charge of the inquest into the deaths of Dr Gilbert Bogle and Margaret Chandler, whose bodies were found on the bank of the Lane Cove River on New Year’s Day 1963, and although the cause of their deaths remained a mystery, the coronial investigation led to many sensational and scandalous revelations about their lives. He remained in the role of Coroner until retiring on 22 May 1970.
