Simes, Thomas
A utility actor, he was never a star of theatre. He became the first Australian costume designer and also worked in theatre management. A week before he died the Sydney Herald commented that 'Mr Simes has injured his health by the exertions made by him in his multifarious occupations of manager, wardrobe-keeper, etc.' That evening, a farewell benefit was hosted at the Royal Victoria Theatre in his honour, as a financial show of support for his young family.
