Sea captain who commanded the Second Fleet transport, Neptune. Described as 'a perfect sea-monster' by passenger, Elizabeth Macarthur, Trail was prosecuted along with Chief Mate William Ellerington for the mistreatment of the convicts aboard Neptune after they returned to England. They were both acquitted.
