Paddy's Markets

Traditional 'flea market' with clothing, souvenirs, fresh produce which grew up alongside the cattle and grain markets in George Street during the 1830s and was formalised near the Belmore Markets and later in Thomas Street Haymarket. The name 'Paddy's' is possibly borrowed from a similar market in Liverpool's Irish quarter. When the Market City complex was built in the 1990s Paddy's Market was accommodated in its basement.
