Granville rail disaster 1977

The Granville rail disaster on 18 January 1977 was the worst rail accident in Australian history. Eighty three people killed, and 210 were injured.

Harbour Control Tower

Large structure in Merriman Street, The Rocks, built in 1974 for control of ship movements in Sydney Harbour. With the removal of most cargo ships to Port Botany it became redundant and is scheduled for demolition.

Royal Commission on Communication between Sydney and North Sydney 1908

Inquiry into the possible options to connect North Sydney and Sydney, with 66 witnesses including north shore residents, engineers, representatives of transport interests and politicians. The Commission recommended a tunnel, but this was not built until decades after the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
