Mr Eddie Saunders remembers his mother's bike rental shop in Liverpool, interviewed in 1986

Mr Eddie Saunders was born in 1903 and was interviewed in 1986 for the 'Looking Back at Liverpool: An Oral History of the Liverpool Region 1900 to 1960.' Here he remembers his mother's bike rental shop in Liverpool, long before motorcars became commonplace.
Transcript

EDDIE: She lived in the house next door to the blacksmith. It was a big lump of a brick place. She had a shop. She used to let out cycles, you know, bikes. People used to come to Liverpool, commercial travellers, in the train, and they used to come down to my mother's shop and hire a bicycle to go out to Hoxton Park and all those surrounding areas.

INTERVIEWER: And they would be salesmen?

EDDIE: Probably. I don't know what they were to tell you the truth, they could be anything.
