(Studio portrait of 1977A Private John Alexander Newcomb, 18th Battalion, of Sydney, NSW. A clerk prior to enlisting at Pyrmont, NSW, on 8 June 1915, Pte Newcomb embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Runic on 9 August 1915. On 16 March 1918, he was invalided back to Australia having suffered a gun shot wound to his chest. He died on 12 April 1919 at No 4 Australian General Hospital, Randwick, aged 20, and is buried in Rookwood Cemetery.)
