Sydney Living Museums

Sydney Living Museums is the trading name of the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales, a statutory authority formed in 1980. It is one of the largest state museums in Australia and is entrusted with the care of key historic buildings and sites in New South Wales.

Death and dying in nineteenth century Sydney

In the newly settled colony, cemeteries were an important cultural institution in which the social order could be established and a person's identity within the community could be defined. Through the trappings of the funeral, statements of status, class and religion were constructed and inscribed upon the cemetery landscape.

Western suburb built on the land of the Burramattagal people. Sydney's second European settlement, it began as a government farm in 1788 and has many heritage listed sites. It is now the commercial hub of Greater Western Sydney.
