Australian News and Information Bureau

The Australian News and Information Bureau was established in 1939 as the Department of Information and renamed in 1950. In the 1970s it became the Australian Information Service. After becoming part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1994, it was disbanded in 1996.

Eastern beachside suburb which has long been a destination for seaside recreation for Sydneysiders and tourists. Its name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning 'stinking place', probably from the smell of rotting seaweed washed up on the beach.
