The daughter of Judge Thomas Callaghan and Eliza Milford. Mary and her mother built the two houses, Corona and Hygeia, which comprise one of the key heritage sites in Randwick in the 1890s. She married the pastoralist, newspaper owner and Member of the Lower House of the New South Wales Parliament, George Auber Jones in 1878 and was widowed in 1887.
