Iconic eastern beach suburb. Its name comes from an Aboriginal word for 'sound of waves breaking on a beach'.

Daily afternoon newspaper first published in 1910. In 1953 Associated Newspapers sold it to Fairfax who published The Sun until 1988 as a companion to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Black Sunday surf rescue 1938

Mass surf rescue at Bondi Beach on Sunday 6 February 1938 after a backwash swept away a sandbank, carrying more than 200 people into deep water. Five people died and 35 were resuscitated by life savers, with hundreds more assisted.

Bondi Surf Bathers' Life Saving Club

Surf club that was responsible for introducing surf lifesaving to Australia and pioneered the famous surf reel and line.
