Librarian who was appointed as the second Mitchell Librarian, despite opposition to a woman in the role, in 1932, and who consolidated the Library's position as the preeminent repository of Australian and Pacific historical documents. During World War II, Leeson was made a major in the Directorate of Research (and Civil Affairs) in the Australian Military Forces.

Mitchell Library

Part of the State Library of New South Wales, the Mitchell Library collection is based on the bequest of David Scott Mitchell, a book collector who amassed an unequalled collection of books on Australia. The collection has continued to grow.
