Stone mill built with convict labour for Thomas Arndell in about 1804 on his property at Cattai on the Hawkesbury River. The surviving parts of the mill and associated granary buildings are probably the oldest industrial structures in Australia. The mill is identified in McGarvie's 1829 list of place names used by the local Aboriginal people as 'Daili' which has two possible meanings: ‘eat/hungry for dry stuff’ and ‘that! that one!’.
