Association first established in Brisbane by a group of draper's assistants to discuss the hours worked by shop assistants. The New South Wales branch was active in 1898 and 1899 in proposing a draft Early Closing Act to limit hours to four days closing at 6pm, one day at 10pm and one day at 1pm.
