Beyer, Augustus Jacob

Surgeon who sailed on three convict transport ships to Australia. Throughout the voyage of the Scarborough and later Britannia, convicts were severely mistreated. Though Beyer was employed as the ship's surgeon, he consistently demonstrated little concern for his duties and the health and welfare of the convicts.
