Fisher, Thomas

Businessperson and benefactor, the son of convicts, who quietly and industriously built a business empire that enabled him to amass a large fortune - much of it bequeathed to the University of Sydney who used it to purchase the books which were to stock the building named in his honour, Fisher Library.

Thomas Fisher, a bootmaker and property investor, bequeathed a large portion of his estate to the University of Sydney to endow its library. Fisher Library bears his name to this day.
