Gaffney, George Leonard
Known as 'Gunman' Gaffney, he worked for madam and sly-grog queen, Kate Leigh. He was also the rival of James Devine and was fatally shot outside the Devines' house in Maroubra. Gaffney refused to name his killer as he lay dying, and Devine was later found not guilty of the charge of murder on the grounds of self-defence.
