Muir, Ian Miller
Student who enlisted in the 8th Reinforcement, 1st Battalion and was sent to Gallipoli in November 1915. He was sent to Egypt and then transferred to the 14th Machine Gun Company in March 1916, sailing for Marseilles, France. In January 1917 he was appointed lance corporal, however, two months later was found guilty of 'hesitating to obey an order given by an officer' and was reduced in rank. While in England, he was mentioned in the British General, Sir Douglas Haig's, despatches. He was promoted to lieutenant in August 1918 but returned to Australia shortly afterward.
