Convict lumber yard, Parramatta

Workshop in Parramatta for convict craftsmen which, along with the yard in the city, was central to the economic development of the colony. The sawpits and blacksmith's shop manufactured boards, fencing, doors and spades and by 1820 had over 344 convict workers and over 40 overseers. In the 1820s the site moved closer to the Charles Street wharf.
