1801 battery, Obelisk Point

Redoubt built at Obelisk Point near Middle Head in 1801, the first of Sydney's headland harbour batteries. It remained one of the main points of colonial defence until 1839.

Bare Island Fort

Fortifications on Bare Island whose faulty construction lead to James Barnet resigning as Colonial Architect. From 1912 they were used as a veteran's home until becoming part of Botany Bay National Park in 1967.

First permanent fortification in Sydney constructed on the site of Dawes' observatory. The current archaeological site below the southern pylon of the Harbour Bridge reveals a powder magazine, officer quarters, guardhouse and circular battery .
