Forgotten Australians

Children and child migrants who experienced care in institutions due to poverty or family break down during the twentieth century. Many suffered abuse, neglect and appalling conditions. The Australian Senate used the term specifically when reporting on its 2003–04 'Inquiry into Children in Institutional Care'.

Scottish Martyrs

Scottish reform movement of the 1790s which was deemed seditious as it advocated electoral reform, universal male suffrage and freedom of speech, even though it urged refom by constitutional means. Five of those accused were transported between 1794 and 1795.

Children of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent who were removed from their families by the Australian Federal and State government agencies and church missions, under acts of their respective parliaments from the late 1800s to the 1970s.

Sydney Twelve

Members of the Industrial Workers of the World arrested on 23 September 1916 in Sydney and charged with treason under the Treason Felony Act (1848), arson, sedition and forgery. An enquiry in 1920 found irregularities and all were released.
