New South Wales Joint Parliamentary Inquiry into Aboriginal Welfare 1967

Parliamentary inquiry established in 1965 and reporting in 1967. In 1969 the Aborigines Act abolished the Aborigines Welfare Board, and subsequently the Directorate of Aboriginal Welfare was established within the Department of Child Welfare and Social Welfare.

Parliamentary Select Committee Inquiry into New South Wales Aborigines Protection Board 1937

Inquiry set up by the Legislative Assembly into the workings of the Aborigines Protection Board. In 1936 the Aborigines Protection Amendment Act had extended the board's powers to have complete control over every Aboriginal person in New South Wales. The resulting political agitation by the Aboriginal community and this inquiry saw the board reconstituted in 1940.

Select Committee on the Condition of the Working Classes of the Metropolis 1859-60

Committee established to assess and assist the underprivileged. Its report on the unemployed, the declines in rates of pay, accommodation, and the existence and extent of juvenile vagrancy in the public streets brought a realisation that the evils of the old world had indeed been transplanted to the new.
