Dolan, Sydney Robert

Bank messenger who enlisted as a private in the 7th Field Ambulance and disembarked at Plymouth, England in November 1916 before being sent to Etaples, France. He was admitted to hospital in April 1917 for 'defective vision'. He was reprimanded for absence without leave in August 1917 and February 1918. In February 1919, he was reprimanded for disobedience while on active service, forfeiting 29 days' pay and receiving 28 days labouring duties.

Doling, Albert Edward

Shearer who enlisted as a private in the 4th Reinforcement, 17th Battalion. Between April 1916 and June 1917 he was reprimanded several times for absence without leave, behaving 'in an insolent manner' and also 'hesitating to obey an order'. Doling was awarded a Military Medal for 'unselfish devotion to duty' during the Battle of Menin Road and in August 1918, he was admitted to hospital for a severe gun shot wound to his right thigh. After marrying in England, he returned to Australia.

Dolphins Point

Point at North Coogee on the old Giles Gym site in Roddingham Reserve that was renamed Dolphin Point to commemorate the six members of the Coogee Dolphins rugby league club who were killed in the Bali Bombings in 2002. A memorial on the site lists the names of 20 residents of the Eastern suburbs who were killed in the bombings.

Donald, James Shand

Ironmoulder who enlisted in the 11th Reinforcement, 19th Battalion. He was promoted to Extra Depot Corporal in England, and then Acting Corporal in September 1916 in Etaples, France, before reverting to private. In November 1916 he was hospitalised in England with trench foot syndrome. He was sent back to Etaples and was admitted to hospital again in May 1918 with influenza and transferred to England before being sent back to Australia suffering from synovitis in his left knee.

Historically significant area on the Hawkesbury River (Dyarubbin) around Sackville Reach and Portland Head that was identified by the Aboriginal people who were sharing knowledge with the Rev John McGarvie in 1829 as he wrote a list of place names used by the Darug and Darkinyung people along the river. The name means 'the zone where the rainbow passes through'.

Bronze statue of a Digger 'at the ready' designed and executed by William Priestly Macintosh. Inscribed beneath the figure are the words 'Freedom, Justice and Australia'. In 1989 Woollahra Council replaced it with a bronze cast of the original and the original was transferred to the Royal Infantry Museum in Singleton.
