Kangaroo Point
Kangaroo Point at Brooklyn, in Hornsby Shire, lies on the southern shore of the Hawkesbury River, where the road bridges of the F3 Freeway and the Pacific Highway cross to Mooney Mooney Point. The name was recorded as early as 1824. [1]
Prior to the arrival of the Europeans, Kangaroo Point was inhabited by Aboriginal people, whose presence is marked by a rock carving known as Stingray Rock. [2]
George Peat started a ferry service across the river in the early 1840s, and this continued to operate until the opening of the Pacific Highway bridge in 1945. [3]
Much of Kangaroo Point is now used as a recreational reserve.
