Thompson, Matthew Pearson
Clerk who was convicted of theft and transported to New South Wales in March 1813. He arrived in February 1814, followed in July by his wife Ann and son William. He was appointed as the schoolteacher at Pitt Town, complete with residence and salary. As soon he was awarded his Ticket of Leave in 1822, Thompson left this job as and moved with his growing family to farming land high on the Macdonald (Gunanday) River.
