Carmichael, Ambrose Campbell
Labor politician and pro-conscriptionist who held public instruction, industry and treasury portfolios before gradually drifting into the National Party in 1922. He enlisted as a Lieutenant in the AIF and was promoted to captain. He was awarded a Military Cross in 1917 for 'conspicuous gallantry in action. He organized the men of his platoon and maintained his position during the most intense enemy bombardment. He set a splendid example of courage and determination throughout. He was wounded.'
