Higgins, Eleanor

Convict and early settler of the Epping area. She was tried at the Old Bailey, London on 12 December 1787 for stealing four linen sheets and was sentenced to transportation for 7 years. She married David Kilpack who received a grant of 80 acres in Ryde which was known as the 'Field of Mars'. When David died she sold part of the land but continued to farm in her own right.
