Simonetti, Achille
Italian sculptor who arrived in Sydney in 1873 after migrating to Brisbane in 1871. Became the most fashionable sculptor in Sydney and made busts of many of the city's notables. His work includes six allegorical figures for the niches on the Colonial Secretary's building, the statue of JH Challis in the Great Hall at the University of Sydney, and the Governor Phillip monument in the Botanic Gardens.
