North Shore, Manly, and Pittwater Tramway and Railway Act 1889

Legislation enacted to authorise the construction of the tramway from the North Shore terminus to The Spit, Manly and Pittwater.

Clovelly Tram Terminus

Tram terminus at Clovelly Beach which was the final stop of a tram line which originally began at Alison Road and ran to the intersection of Clovelly and Carrington roads in 1912. There were proposals for tram services in the area as early as 1905. After the initial line was extended to Clovelly in 1913, there were connecting services between the city and the area by 1923. The last tram ran in 1957.

Coogee Tram Terminus

Tram terminus at Coogee Beach. After lines were extended to Randwick, it is estimated about 7,000 passengers walked the rest of the distance to Coogee Beach as the local horse bus service could not cope with the numbers. The tram line was extended from Randwick to Coogee in August 1882 and after services commenced, Coogee became a popular summer resort. Industrial disputes in the power industry forced a curtailment of services in the late 1940s and buses began to replace trams.

La Perouse Tram Terminus

Tram loop which catered for both the service from the city via Maroubra with a branch to Malabar, and that from Botany. Opening in 1902 for steam trams the services were electrified in 1905. The last trams ran on February 25 1961. It has now been modified for car and bus parking.

Maroubra Bay Tram Terminus

Tram terminus at Marine Parade Maroubra for the service that ran from the city from 1921. First mooted in 1909 a small population did not justify construction though summer crowds were extensive. Helping to expand the area over 30 years especially beach excursion traffic it was one of the last terminus in use by 1960.
