Nurse who greatly influenced professional nursing in Australia and who worked as matron and superintendent in many hospitals in Sydney before travelling to the Boer War, and then Egypt and England during World War I.

Governor, Jimmy

Aboriginal man who was hanged at Darlinghurst Gaol on 18 January 1901. He, his brother Joe Governor and their friend Jacky Underwood had gone on the run as bushrangers in July 1900 after murdering a family at Breelong in western New South Wales. More people were killed before they were captured in November 1901.

Grang Grang

Aboriginal woman from Botany Bay who was the mother of Boatswain Maroot and his three sisters. There is no evidence to indicate if this is Bennelong's sister Carangarang, or, as seems more likely, another woman with a similar name. Boatswain Maroot said he had three sisters by the same mother at the Select Committee of the Condition of the Aborigines in 1845, but did not mention other children known to be Carangarang's.

Gray, Dorothy

Older woman who arrived in Sydney as a convict on the Lady Penrhyn with the First Fleet in 1788 after being found of guilty of perjury in 1785. Bowes-Smyth estimated her age at about 82, but it is more likely that she was about 60. She spent seven years in Sydney before returning to Britain on the Kitty in 1793.  She was also knows as Dorothy Hartland, Handland, Handley or Henley.

Known as 'The Little Gunman' because of his short stature, Frank Green was the lover of Nellie Cameron and rival of Guido Calletti. He had brown hair and eyes, an L-shaped scar on his right cheek from a razor and several bullet wounds on his body. He worked as a gunman for Tilly Devine's brothels in the late 1920s and clashed with the Devines after the shooting of Gregory Gaffney. He was stabbed to death by his girlfriend at his home on Cooper Street, Paddington.
