Hospital at Ultimo established by the Benevolent Society of New South Wales adjacent to the Thomas Street Asylum with wards for homeless women and children.
James Bonner and Sons
Iron foundry formed by James Bonner in 1895 which purchased the Globe Iron Foundry and Glebe Foundry and operated from McKee Street Ultimo until the 1930s.
Royal Australian Historical Society Green Plaque 70. Powerhouse
Commemorative plaque that was installed on the site of the Ultimo Power Station between 1984 and 1988 as part of the Sydney Green Plaques Bicentennial project.
Tumbalong Park
Five hectares of open space within the Darling Harbour redevelopment often filled with entertainers not far from the Ultimo paddocks where jugglers and strongmen performed in the 19th century.
Market City
A 42-storey building occupying the area bounded by Quay, Hay and Thomas Streets, and Ultimo Road, opened in 1997. Comprises The Peak apartments above a commercial area which includes Paddy's Markets.
Chinese Nationalist Party of Australia building
Building at 75 Ultimo Road, Haymarket that opened in May 1922 as the headquarters of the Chinese Nationalist Party of Australia. Also known for this reason as the KuoMinTang headquarters, or the KMT Building.
Powerhouse Museum
Wide-ranging museum of human ingenuity housed in a repurposed power station in Ultimo, which grew out of the Technological Museum, whose collection was based on the International Exhibition of 1879, and the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences.
Sydney Boys' High School
Public boys' high school established in 1883 to provide a complete education and qualification for entry to the University of Sydney. First housed in Elizabeth Street, the school moved to Ultimo in 1892 and to Moore Park in 1928.
Harris, Matthew
One of the third generation of the Harris family to live in Ultimo, Sir Matthew Harris spent much of his time managing his real estate investments. He was active in political and civic affairs and served as Mayor of Sydney 1898-1900.
Broadway picture theatre
Cinema building at the corner of Broadway and Mountain Street, Ultimo. The cinema closed in 1960 and the building was later used as a nightclub, including Jonathan's Disco in the 1970s, and in the 1980s the Phoenician Club of Australia.
Goldsbrough Mort & Co
By 1838 wool was Australia's main export, and auctioneer Thomas Mort's wool stores grew rapidly as a major presence in Ultimo and Pyrmont.
Muir, John
Minister who worked for his businessman father before he was ordained in 1888. He migrated with his wife Jane and three sons serving in Bega and Nowra before he moved to Ultimo in 1916. From 1920 he served in various churches and as a visiting chaplain at Sydney Hospital.
