Greycliffe House

Two-storey Victorian style sandstone mansion in Vaucluse. John Reeve purchased the land from William Charles Wentworth and commissioned John Hilly to build the property. It was completed at a cost of 5,000 pounds. He and his wife never lived there. In 1897, the property was severely damaged by fire and then completely rebuilt. In 1911, the property was transferred to public ownership and given over by the state government for use as a hospital for babies and then a mothercraft centre. It was added to the Sydney Harbour National Park in 1978.

Griffiths, Jonathan

Shipowner and builder convicted of grand larceny on 16 July 1788 and sentenced to transportation. After arriving in Sydney, he was transferred to Norfolk Island where he became associated with Eleanor McDonald. By 1804, he was building boats and by 1806, he and Eleanor had 100 acres of land in Richmond and seven children. He also received various land grants in Van Diemen's Land.

Convict tried at the Old Bailey, London in 1784 for stealing material with a value of 80 shillings. He was sentenced to seven years' transportation and paired with fellow convict Philip Farrell in an attempted mutiny on Scarborough. He received 24 lashes on HMS Sirius and was transferred to Prince of Wales.
