Banker, charity worker and editor who used his editorial position as an advocate of a free press, representative government and trial by common jury.  In November 1819 he was appointed to the position of the coroner of the territory of New South Wales by Governor Lachlan Macquarie, for which he was paid an annual salary of £80. He resigned from the position in October 1821 and went to his property at Lake Bathurst near Goulburn. On his return to Sydney in 1826 he founded the newspaper The Monitor with Edward Hill, leading to many disputes with Governor Ralph Darling and convictions for libel.

Hall, George

Early settler in the Hawkesbury area who received the first land grant in Arcadia. He came to Australia with his family aboard the Coromandel in 1802 with a number of other families who all settled along the Hawkesbury River (Dyarubbin). His estate, Percy Place, was at Pitt Town.

Hall, Joseph

Convict who arrived in Sydney as part of the First Fleet. He was convicted in London 1784 of highway robbery and sentenced to 14 years transportation to America, but escaped after a convict mutiny on the Mercury. He was recaptured and departed for New South Wales on the Charlotte in 1788. After being sentenced to hang, with three of his fellow mutineers, for the theft of food in February 1788, he was given a reprieve and sent with Henry Lavell, one of the others charged, to Pinchgut until June. He was sent to Norfolk Island on the Sirius in 1790 and eventually received a conditional pardon, after which he settled on Norfolk Island.
