Area around Wassall Street Matraville used after the gold rushes of the 1850s when Chinese began to operate market gardens and laundries in the Botany, Mascot and Matraville areas. They continued until the 1970s when many were bulldozed for housing developments.

Emu Plains Government Agricultural Establishment

Convict farm established by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1819, which produced food, housed land-clearing gangs and oversaw the movement of convicts and supplies over the Blue Mountains.

Frenchman's Gardens

Just after the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, a fleet of French ships captained by Jean-Francois Lapérouse also arrived and anchored at what is now known as Frenchmans Bay. After making landfall, they set up a stockade and planted European vegetable seeds in a plot which became known as 'the Frenchman's Gardens'. The French fleet, however, departed after just six weeks. An 1824 description noted the garden was still visible: 'An enclosure in which Lapérouse had vegetables sown is still there, it has kept the name of the French garden. It is surrounded by a hedge but the inside is almost uncultivated; some vegetables saved by the detachment perished because of lack of water'.

The location of the Frenchman's Gardens is uncertain but was described in 1824 as 'located at 300 paces' distance' from the Macquarie watchtower.

John Bailey's upper farm

Thirty acres of land on the Macdonald River that was farmed by John Bailey in the early 19th century. In the 1820s the location was identified by Aboriginal people in the area as Nyeering, possibly from yirang (Darkinyung), a cliff or steep hill.

Norwood Park

Dairy in the Marrickville area owned by John Neville. It closed in the early twentieth century, was developed as an army depot during World War I, and is now the site of the Addison Road Community Centre.

Old Manse Farm, Pitt Town

Single storey Georgian brick farmhouse built c1819-1821 on Punt Road, Pitt Town. It was purchased in 1828 as a manse for the Reverend John McGarvie, the first incumbent of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. The punt across the river was part of the property. The house was damaged in the floods of 1867 but repaired and remained in use as a manse for another ten years. Leased to a farmer after 1877, the building was sold by the church in 1959. It is the earliest surviving Australian housing used by clergy.

Dairy supplying milk locally and through a depot in Vaucluse until the property was sold in 1949. The dairy was then moved to Baulkham Hills.

Milk depot which delivered milk from Gladesville and Baulkham Hills in Vaucluse and parts of Rose Bay from the late nineteenth century. When it closed the site became the Diamond Bay Bowling Club and greens.

Poultry Research Station Seven Hills

Experimental poultry breeding farm from the early 1900s, which became part of a soldier settlement poultry farming scheme after World War I, with some five-acre lots and a breeding facility. After the failure of the scheme, the Government Poultry Farm continued with experimental breeding, becoming an agricultural research station.

The Vineyard

House and farm on the Parramatta River established by Philip Schaeffer on his land grant in 1792. After several private owners it was purchased for the Catholic church and converted to a convent school for young girls in 1851. When the school declined it housed a closed Benedictine community until the area was reclaimed for industry in 1957.
