Wayside Chapel

founded by Tedd Noffs, the Wayside Chapel has been a landmark in Kings Cross since 1963, helping locals and visitors and creating several organisations active in drug rehabilitation, life education and other social reform.

6 Amiens Crescent Matraville

Sole surviving cottage of Matraville Soldier's Settlement Garden Village of over ninety houses constructed between 1918-1926 for returned soldiers from World War I. It was renovated as a community centre in 1989.

Local community hall, used by the Coal Lumpers Union, before being taken over by Sydney City Council as community facilities.

Addison Road Community Centre

The Addison Road Community Centre is a community meeting-place in Marrickville, in the heart Sydney's Inner West, on the land of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. The site was used as an Army Depot from the middle of World War I and became a community centre in 1976. It is home to organisations, artists, galleries, a theatre, a radio station, organic gardens and a self-guided Heritage Trail. The centre is cared for and managed by the Addison Road Community Centre Organisation (ARCCO), creating affordable spaces for NGOs, community groups and artists, and as a base for ARCCO's own community development programs in the arts, multiculturalism, environment, social justice and history. The centre is a locally listed Heritage Item that preserves remnant open space from its time as a 19th century dairy and market garden, dozens of buildings from its period of military use and buildings, artworks and additions made since its incarnation as a vibrant community centre, as well as several magnificent trees.

Administration Building of WD and HO Wills

Office building constructed for the British tobacco importer and cigarette manufacturer. It became the centre of social life for the community with concerts, outings and sports on their bowling green, cricket ground, soccer and hockey fields. The area was redeveloped for residences and the building became a community centre.

Albion Street Children's Court

Former court building constructed by builder CC Coleman of Petersham for 9555 pounds. It was soon overcrowded and outdated with a reputation for violence and was closed when the boys were transferred to Lidcombe in 1983. It has since been used by the Sydney City Mission and community organisations.

Balgowlah Theatre

Cinema at 318 Sydney Road, Balgowlah that was originally built as a meeting hall built for the Balgowlah Progress Association in 1922 and converted to a cinema in 1927. The cinema closed in 1985 and the building was demolished.

Community and cultural centre (Hrvatski dom) on the corner of Buckingham and Bedford Streets, Surry Hills from the 1960s. It later moved to Marrickville and then to the corner of Canterbury and Punchbowl Roads, Punchbowl.

Community centre opened in 1981 at James Morgan Reserve, Cromer.

Community hall constructed in three stages between 1906 and 1916, and opened in October 1909, the building was used for Baptist church services and is now Epping Community Centre.

Merrylands School of Arts building

Community hall built 1917-25 with the help of Premier Jack Lang. It was transferred to Holroyd Council in 1982 and later used as a youth centre.

Fire station constructed for the local volunteer brigade. When vacated in 1908 it became factory and is now a community centre.

Pyrmont Community Centre

Two storey brick block which provided amenities as well as education. It was only at school that many children were able to have showers and proper baths, and the building of the school gymnasium in 1919 was a boon to the budding champion athletes of Pyrmont. But from a peak of 650 students in 1920, the number fell to 245 in 1933 as houses were demolished for woolstores and flour mills, and the school was closed. It is now a community centre.

St Magdalen's Retreat

Hostel providing accommodation for females over the age of 12 years. It was used by the New South Wales Government as a care institution, as well as accepting voluntary admissions from families who could not care for young women. The building is now a community centre.

Multi-purpose centre designed to minimise traffic noise and maximise sun on the internal courtyard. It houses a sports hall, craft room, childcare centre and libraries.
