Colonial English migrant whose letters to her family about her colonial experiences were serialised posthumously in The Bulletin in 1951-1952 with illustrations by Norman Lindsay as The Letters of Rachel Henning, and subsequently published as a book. Her papers are now in the Mitchell Library.

Henninges Bakery

Bakery constructed by Henry Henninges in 1893 and operated by him until 1912. The kneading, ploughing and steaming was done upstairs in the main working area and then sent through a chute downstairs to be baked in the 2 ovens. It is said that up to 5000 loaves were baked daily during this time. The lane behind the factory still bears Henninges name.

Henry, Juliette

French woman who joined her partner, doctor Paul Rastoul, in New Caledonia in 1873 after he was exiled from France after the defeat of the Commune in Paris in 1871. She arrived in Sydney with her two children in 1874 after being deported for assisting in the attempted escape of a French communard. Paul Rastoul drowned trying to escape the following year. In Sydney she worked as a French teacher and in 1880 she married French artist Lucien Henry, another former Communard. After his departure for Paris in 1891 she began divorce proceedings. As well as taking part in Sydney's intellectual and social life, she established Cercle Litteraire Française, French literary circles in Hobart and Sydney. A monument to her was erected in Waverley Cemetery in November 1898.

Her Majesty's Theatre Haymarket

Theatre in Quay Street Haymarket. Originally known as the Empire Theatre its name was changed to Her Majesty's in 1960 after renovations. It burned down in 1970 and was replaced in 1973 by a smaller theatre with the same name. This was subsequently demolished and replaced by an apartment building.

Largest and best-equipped theatre in Sydney when it opened in 1887, Her Majesty's was rebuilt after a fire destroyed the theatre in 1902. Closed as a theatre in the 1930s, the building survived until the redevelopment of the site for Centrepoint in the 1970s.
