Bellevue

Colonial mansion on Glebe Point of late Victorian Italianate design. It was only used as a home until 1925 when a timber mill was operated from and around the site. When Blackwattle Bay Park was created by landfill in the 1970s only the house was retained due to community lobbying and currently operates as a cafe and community centre.

A large house with outbuildings, stables etc. built in the early 1830s on the Cooks River Road near Newtown by Alexander Brodie Spark, and then owned by businessman John Lord. Most of its grounds were subdivided into building allotments in the early 1840s and the house was renamed Holmwood in the 1850s. The building had been demolished by 1893.

Benevolent Asylum

Asylum constructed by the Benevolent Society in 1821 to provide shelter and care to the poor, aged and infirm. Adjacent to the Old Sydney Burial Ground (Devonshire Street Cemetery), it was demolished to make way for the current Central Railway Station in 1901.

Grand Victorian mansion on the corner of Glebe Point and Wigram Roads in Glebe, built for timber merchant Alexander Kethel. It was later converted to a homeopathic hospital and general community hospital. It is now owned by the City of Sydney and houses the Glebe branch of the public library and other community groups. The adjacent park  was the site of the Sydney Hospital for Sick Children, founded in 1880. This was renamed the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in 1904 and moved to Camperdown in 1907. The hospital building was also used by the homeopathic hospital before it was razed for the park in 1968.

Bennelong

Eora man who had an important role in relations between the colonists and the local people. With Colebee, Bennelong was abducted by Governor Phillip at Manly on 25 November 1789 and held at Government House. He escaped in May 1790, but started visiting the colony voluntarily later in the year. In December 1792, he travelled to England with Phillip, returning in 1795.

Bennelong Point

Rocky outcrop to the east of Sydney Cove, which was a tidal island when Europeans arrived, but was joined to the mainland with rocky rubble in 1818 to provide a basis for Fort Macquarie to be built there. The point is named for Bennelong, who lived in a house on the point in the 1790s.
