New South Wales Corps

Permanent regiment formed to relieve the Marines of the First Fleet, which began arriving on the Second Fleet in 1790. The officers became wealthy and powerful in the colony, partly due to their trade in spirits. The Corps was reformed into the 102nd Regiment of Foot in 1809 after the Rum Rebellion.
